KUALA LUMPUR – Four areas in Sabah will be put under the enhanced movement control order (EMCO), while two localities in Kedah will see theirs extended.
The EMCO for all six locations will be implemented from June 1 to 14.
Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob in a statement today said Kg Tg Kapor in Kudat, Sabah, recorded 10 Covid-19 cases after 24 villagers were screened.
Kg Assam in Lahad Datu also logged 10 cases after 13 individuals were tested, and Taman Pelangi in Semporna recorded eight cases after 28 individuals were screened.
Kg Payas-Payas and Kg Rampayan Laut in Kota Belud have been seeing a rapid climb in Covid-19 cases over the last 10 days, with nine infections in Kg Payas-Payas and 11 in Kg Rampayan Laut.
There is a high risk that the coronavirus will spread in the two villages as residents are living in close proximity to one another.
Meanwhile, EMCOs at Bandar Darulaman and Lubuk Kawah in Jitra, Kedah, will be extended to June 14.
In Bandar Darulaman, 1,085 screenings were conducted and 159 tested positive. The Health Ministry found that the infectivity rate is high and more cases will be recorded.
In Lubuk Kawah, 632 screenings were conducted and 48 tested positive. The locality is also found to have a high infectivity rate.
EMCOs at 16 localities in Sg Ruan and seven in Sempalit, Pahang, will be lifted tomorrow. Sg Ruan has a total of 65 cases, while Sempalit has 47.
Meanwhile, 749 individuals were arrested for violating MCO standard operating procedures, of which 18 were remanded and two given bail.
Among the offences are not wearing face masks (180), not practising physical distancing (138), failure to record personal details when entering premises (120), breaching the number of passengers allowed in a vehicle (55) and others (256). – The Vibes, May 30, 2021
