KUALA LUMPUR – The National Security Council (NSC) is allowing the construction sector to perform critical works but with approvals from the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB).
Contractors will need to apply for CIDB approvals.
Among the critical works allowed during the total lockdown scheduled from June 1 to 14 includes maintenance and repairs to slopes, roads, bridges, traffic control management and traffic lights. Also allowed are lift, escalator, and travelator maintenance and repairs.
Similarly, repairs and upgrades toward the facilities in premises offering critical services will not be prohibited. The cleaning of premises to avoid the breeding of Aedes mosquitoes would be allowed.
Critical repairs to an individual’s home would not be prohibited.
With regards to construction works involving public infrastructure, critical repairs would be allowed for tunnels, slopes, bridges, viaducts, highways and hospitals which are physically completed up to 80%, MRT, LRT, ECRL, KTM Komuter, as well as infrastructure related to electricity, telecommunications, dams and oil and gas.
Construction of buildings with complete workers’ quarters on-site would be allowed to operate.
“All contractors involved in such projects must obtain approval from CIDB’s CIMS online system to operate from Tuesday onwards,” said Senior Minister (Works) Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said in a statement.
Meanwhile, workforce capacity is limited to 60%. All workers, foreign or local, must undergo Covid-19 screening before starting work, and contractors are reminded to appoint security and health personnel to supervise compliance to standard operating procedures.
“To ensure the Covid-19 virus does not spread from construction sites to the community, commuting in and out of worksites and workers’ quarters must be limited.”
Workers are also not allowed to move from one construction site to another during the lockdown period. – The Vibes, May 30, 2021
