LANGKAWI – Another top resort here has caught fire, just five months after a blaze destroyed parts of The Andaman.

However, staff of the sprawling Berjaya Langkawi Beach & Spa Resort managed to douse the small fire before firemen from Kuah, some 25km away, arrived.

The fire occurred at an area dividing the hotel’s main hall at 3.20pm.

Kedah Fire and Rescue Department senior superintendent of fire I Mohamadul Ehsan Mohd Zain said after it received a distress call, a fire engine with seven officers and 18 men were deployed to the scene.

“The fire involved a partition wall at the main hall, affecting an estimated area of 3m by 2m. The estimated damage is about 5% of the hall,” he said in a statement today.

Ehsan said no one was hurt in the incident.

“Firefighters then carried out overhaul work and a thorough inspection at the fire site.” – The Vibes, May 31, 2021
