KUALA LUMPUR – The civil service will see some of their allowance reduced for three months, amounting to more than RM30 million channelled to the crisis trust fund, said the government’s chief secretary.
This comes after Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin announced that ministers and deputy ministers will not be taking a salary for three months starting June. Their salaries will instead be channelled to the crisis trust fund for Covid-19-related expenditures.
In a statement today, Chief Secretary Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali said a portion of the entertainment allowance (imbuhan tetap keraian) for senior management and officers grades 44 to 56, and public service allowance (imbuhan tetap khidmat awam) for those in grades 29 to 41 will be donated to the fund.
The allowance cut will affect more than 800,000 civil servants, excluding frontliners and officers grades 1 to 28, and is expected to amount to more than RM30 million.
Zuki said this is done in solidarity and as a show of support for the government’s efforts to combat the pandemic. – The Vibes, June 1, 2021
