[UPDATED] Covid-19 daily tally creeps back up with 7,105 new cases

KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia’s daily coronavirus tally is back on the rise with 7,105 infections recorded today, the first day of a two-week total lockdown aimed at combating the pandemic.

The last two days saw the country registering cases in the 6,000 range, a substantial drop from the record-high 9,020 on May 29.

Of the fresh Covid-19 cases, Selangor leads with 2,068, trailed by Kuala Lumpur (817), Sarawak (703), Kelantan (531), Johor (431) and Penang (400).

Negri Sembilan registered 397 infections, Perak (387), Sabah (318), Melaka (249) and Kedah (236).

Terengganu saw 198 cases, Pahang (190), Labuan (162) and Putrajaya (18).

Perlis is the sole state without fresh cases.

The latest count takes the country’s total caseload to 579,462. 

Recoveries nationwide rose by 6,083 to 496,121. Active cases currently stands at 80,474; 872 of which are in intensive care units, with 419 intubated.

There were 71 fresh fatalities today, bringing the death toll to 2,867. 

The country has seen a total of 2,215 clusters, including 27 new clusters recorded today. 1,547 have ended, leaving 668 currently active.

On the 71 fatalities, 28 were recorded in Selangor, followed by Johor (8 cases), Sarawak (7), Kuala Lumpur (6), Kelantan (5), Melaka (4), and Kedah (3).

Negri Sembilan, Terengganu and Perak recorded 2 cases each, while Sabah, Pahang, Labuan and Pulau Pinang registered 1 death each.

Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said 13 of the 27 clusters today are related to workplaces, community clusters (8), religious activities (3), education centres (2), and one from a high-risk group.

Selangor recorded the Jalan Enggang cluster in Kuala Langat with 28 cases, the Persiaran Bestari cluster with 25 cases, the Batu Empat Kg Jawa cluster in Klang with 25 cases, and the Jalan Setia Perdana cluster in Klang with 37 cases. All clusters in the state are related to workplaces.

Sarawak logged the Jalan Haji Lampam workplace cluster in Miri with 22 cases and the Tengah Hulu Gedong community cluster in Simunjan with 21 cases.

Kelantan saw the Panchor workplace cluster in Kota Baru with 22 cases, the Kg Bukit Bidang community cluster in Pasir Puteh with 23 cases, the Kg Paloh Chicha Tinggi community cluster in Pasir Mas and Pasir Puteh with 16 cases, the Lubok Kuin community cluster in Bachok with 17 cases, the Kg Menjual education cluster in Tumpat and Kota Baru with 30 cases, and the Jalan Taman Sri Selising education cluster in Machang and Pasir Puteh with 6 cases.

In Johor, the Jalan NIP Dua workplace cluster was logged involving 20 cases, followed by the Jalan Dataran Larkin Tiga workplace cluster in Johor Bahru with 6 cases, the Jalan Suka Ria cluster in Johor Baru and Kluang with 10 cases, the Linggiu community cluster in Kota Tinggi with 21 cases, and the Parit Bobok religious activity cluster in Tangkak with 37 cases.

Kuala Lumpur recorded the Jalan Semarak workplace cluster in Titiwangsa with 18 cases, and the Persiaran Raja Chulan high-risk group cluster in Lembah Pantai with 18 cases, while Penang saw the Hala Kg Jawa Dua workplace cluster in Seberang Prai with 21 cases, and the Lebuh Kg Jawa workplace cluster in Seberang Prai with 18 cases, as well as the Belah Dua community cluster in Seberang Prai with 16 cases.

Perak registered the Jalan Greentown Dua workplace cluster in Kinta with 17 cases, the Teluk Moroh community cluster in Manjung with 19 cases, The Taman Kerian Tambahan religious activity cluster in Kerian with 49 cases, and the Parit Haji Wahab community cluster also in Kerian with 20 cases.

Finally, Terengganu recorded the Indah Paka community cluster in Dungun, Kemaman, and Marang with 55 cases. – The Vibes, June 1, 2021
