[UPDATED] 13 Bayan Lepas localities to fall under EMCO from Friday to June 17

KUALA LUMPUR – Thirteen localities at Bayan Lepas, Penang will be placed under the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) from Friday to June 17 following a spike of Covid-19 cases for the past two weeks.

Senior Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said 83 cases have been identified in the vicinity during the same period with the total number of cases being recorded at 250.

“The localities are Sri Bayu, Bayu Tiara, Bayu Nyaman, Halaman Murni, Bayan Permai, Bayan Tiara, Taman Ara Indah, Kg Bukit, Kg Perlis, Kg Masjid, Jalan Mahkamah, Jalan Kg Pak Lah, and Lebuh Kg Bukit.

“Screening tests conducted among close contacts revealed a positivity rate of 19.6% while community screening tests stands at 10.7%,” he said in a statement today.

The decision to declare EMCO, he said, was made after making a risk assessment with various agencies in the MCO Technical Committee and on the advice of the Health Ministry.

At the same time, Ismail Sabri also declared an extended EMCO at several localities in Sabah and Pahang from June 4 to 17 following a surge in cases.

The localities are:

- Lorong Taman Utama 5, 6, 7, & 8, Taman Utama, Sandakan, Sabah following nine Covid-19 cases after the screening of 13 individuals, recording 69.2% in positivity rate;

- Kg Sepagaya Hulu, Silam, Lahad Datu in Sabah following 19 cases from 35 individuals screened;

- Rumah Murah Kepayan and Kg Tg Aru Baru, Kota Kinabalu in Sabah following 24 cases;

- Taman Bentong Makmur; Taman Harmoni; Taman Kolej and; Taman Desa Damai, Bentong, Pahang, following 19 cases from 126 individuals that were screened;

- 22 localities in Mukim Pekan, Kunak, Sabah, following 173 active cases with a positivity rate of 64%; and

- SMU Pantai Manis, Papar, Sabah, following 171 cases from 940 tested.

Meanwhile, Ismail Sabri announced that EMCO at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) Skudai campus, Johor will end tomorrow as scheduled.

This after the ministry confirmed that there was a decrease in cases and clusters were under control, while positive cases had received treatment.

The EMCO at Gugusan Mendi, Bera, Pahang will also end tomorrow in advance, instead of June 11, after the ministry confirmed a decrease in cases and clusters under control.

Meanwhile, a total of 792 individuals were arrested yesterday as a result of 71,549 inspections conducted by the Compliance Operations Task Force, with 781 individuals compounded, 10 were remanded while one posted bail.

Among the offences recorded were failing to observe physical distancing (180); not wearing face masks (170); failing to record personal details/check-ins of premises (135 cases); unauthorised inter-state/district, eating at premises (102); failure to comply with movement order (88); ferrying extra passengers (88); premises that fail to comply (9) and others (20).
