BALIK PULAU – An operations centre has been set up in Bayan Lepas to assist some 30,000 residents ahead of 13 localities being placed under a two-week enhanced movement control order (EMCO) starting tomorrow.

Bayan Lepas assemblyman Azrul Mahathir Aziz said the centre will coordinate the distribution of food aid and offer emergency services to those under home quarantine.

Police have tightened security around Sri Bayu, Bayu Tiara, Bayu Nyaman, Halaman Murni, Bayan Permai, Bayan Tiara, Taman Ara Indah, Kg Bukit, Kg Perlis, Kg Masjid, Jalan Mahkamah, Jalan Kg Pak Lah and Lebuh Kg Bukit.

These localities have reported 83 Covid-19 cases and three deaths in the past two weeks.

At present, Penang has a total of 29,433 infections and 86 fatalities – the highest in the northern region.

Azrul urged people to be disciplined and stay home to curb the coronavirus’ spread.

Residents under the EMCO can reach the operations centre at 019-411-0182, village chief Khairul Azuar (017-412-7438) and state operations centre (04-262-1207). – The Vibes, June 3, 2021
