KUALA LUMPUR – Two men have been detained by the Petaling Jaya police for obstructing authorities from performing their duties.
The Petaling Jaya police received complaints from residents in Pelangi Damansara, where two men were reportedly causing a ruckus.
When police responded to the complaint, it was found that the suspects were intoxicated and refused to comply with the authorities.
Petaling Jaya District Police Chief, Mohamad Fakhrudin Abdul Hamid today said both suspects created a commotion and threw abusive words at the police officers, trying to provoke them.
Both suspects have been remanded for two days and the case is being investigated under Section 186 of the Penalty Code For preventing civil servants from performing duties.
If convicted of the offence, the suspects can be sentenced up to two years imprisonment or a fine of RM 10,000, or both.
One of the suspects was also charged with a compound of RM 1,500 for not wearing a mask.
The Petaling Jaya police have advised the public to always fully cooperate with police officers carrying out duties in the field. Failure to cooperate with authorities may be charged with legal action. – The Vibes, June 4, 2021
