BUTTERWORTH – The Penang Regional Development Authority (Perda) has announced a moratorium and exemption for entrepreneurs, tenants of stalls, premises, land, and the Hardcore Poor Housing Project affected by the implementation of movement control order 3.0 now.

Perda chairman Khaliq Mehtab Mohd Ishaq said the initiative would last for three months from May to July this year, with a total value of RM561,100.

“These steps are taken to ease the people’s burden for the continuity of their businesses and the daily lives of individuals under Perda.

“The incentives include the postponement and rescheduling (moratorium) of repayments under the Perda loan scheme, which involves a total of 98 borrowers with a financial implication of RM130,000,” he said in a statement today.

Khaliq said the exemption is targeted at rental payments of Perda business premises with the condition that the tenant of the premises must prove that the business is affected by the reduction in income and must submit an application for exemption by contacting Perda’s headquarters.

He said the incentive would involve a total of 368 tenants of Perda premises with a financial implication of RM341,000.

He also said apart from that, the targeted exemption for rental payment of land owned by Perda came with the condition that tenants must prove their businesses have been affected by a drop in income.

The incentive will involve a total of 54 land tenants with a financial implication of RM73,000.

“The initiative to immediately exempt the rent of PPRT Tok Alang houses in North Seberang Perai involves a total of 55 poor tenants with a financial implication of RM17,100,” he added. – Bernama, June 5, 2021
