KUALA LUMPUR – MySejahtera has advised users to uninstall and reinstall the app if it becomes unresponsive.
This is after dozens of Malaysians complained about facing issues with the app over the past couple of days.
However, doing so will cause the user’s check-in history in the app to be wiped out.
Then again, all is not lost as these records, according to MySejahtera, will still be available in the Health Ministry’s contact tracing database.
MySejahtera is an application developed by the government to assist in managing Covid-19 outbreaks in the country.
It allows users to perform a health self-assessment on themselves and their family members, as well as monitor their health progress throughout the pandemic.
“For some of you who face an unresponsive ‘check-in’ page, kindly uninstall and reinstall the app.
“Kindly note that ‘check-in’ history in the app will be reset when reinstalled due to security reasons,” it posted on Twitter via its account @my_sejahtera today.

Kindly note that 'Check-In' history in the app will be reset when reinstalled due to security reasons. MOH contact tracing database has a record of all your check-ins.
The explanation, however, has puzzled many Malaysians, who accused the platform of taking the “easy way out” in addressing app crashes, which they claimed is at the expense of end users.
Several users were quick to point out a recent case involving an individual who was fined RM1,500 after he failed to furnish proof of his MySejahtera check-in after reinstalling the app.
In the incident on May 23, Aiman Khairul Anwar said he himself was surprised that his check-in history had been erased when police conducted checks on his workplace.

Commenting on MySejahtera’s Twitter post today, @moon_crunchymy asked: “Will you pay for our summons if the police checks, and there is no history recorded?”
Another user @christina_hysim posted: “The problem is, when the police check, we may be issued compounds. It’s better not to remove history.”
A number of commenters suggested that users take a screenshot of recent check-in histories before reinstalling the application to avoid problems.
Software engineer @omarqe pointed out that the reason the histories are reset is because the developer did not request the application programming interface to fetch history data, and that a quick fix to this would address the issue.
@IzzatIsNotAnA** similarly pointed out the flaw, adding: “What’s the use of having a government app if you don’t utilise cloud services? Stupid.”
Others, meanwhile, slammed the application provider for not making an effort to update the system to address the bugs.
They questioned the need to uninstall and reinstall MySejahtera when a simple software update should be able to fix any issue. – The Vibes, June 5, 2021
