KUALA LUMPUR – “Class of 2021, dismissed!” are words that Muhammad Salihin Mohd Sabri will never forget, as he and a few other Malaysians made the country proud after graduating from the United States (US) Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, USA.

In a sweet Instagram post, he said he is the fourth Malaysian to graduate from the US Air Force Academy and is looking forward to serve in the Royal Malaysian Air Force.

“Alhamdulillah, I want to give the biggest of thanks to my family and friends that have helped me on my journey.

“Ayah (dad), Raihah and Tok (grandma), how I wish you could be there in person with me. I love you all so much. Mum, I hope you are doing well up in heaven, and I hope I made you proud.

“To the Delta Tau Deuce Squadron, thank you and I will miss you. Man, it is still hard to believe it sometimes, but a new journey awaits. Royal Malaysian Air Force, I’m looking forward to serve!”

Along with his post, he shared photos of him in uniform holding a Malaysian flag during the graduation ceremony.

The US Embassy Kuala Lumpur in a Facebook post extended its congratulations to several Malaysians who graduated from different military service academies in the US.

They are Ahmad Yusuf Ahmad Azani, Sayniish Pillay Muniandy and Wan Kamal Fitri Wan Kamal Baharein, who were welcomed by the embassy in 2017 after they were accepted into their respective academies.

Sayniish and Wan Kamal were accepted into the US Military Academy, better known as West Point, while Yusuf graduated from the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, last week.

The post also contained a photo of Yusuf standing with the Malaysian flag draped over his shoulders as international students are recognised during the graduation and commissioning ceremony for the US Naval Academy at the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium on May 28.

Next Wednesday at 9am, US ambassador to Malaysia Brian McFeeters will hold a virtual send-off ceremony for cadets Mohamad Khairel Adha Mohd Khairee, who will be heading to the US Air Force Academy, and Nicholas Ong Yong Xen, who will be heading to the US Naval Academy. – The Vibes, June 6, 2021
