Mum among 4 in family arrested over toddler’s death

MIRI – Four members of a family, including the mother, have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a 2-year-old boy was brought in dead to Betong Hospital yesterday.

The toddler had injuries believed to have been inflicted by the suspects, said Betong police chief Zamry Ali in a statement today.

“The 2-year-old boy was admitted to Betong Hospital by his family members yesterday afternoon. Hospital authorities found that he was already dead when he was brought in.

“Bruises and injuries were found on his body following checks by hospital personnel. The hospital management immediately alerted us to the case.”

He said initial investigations indicated that abuse allegedly led to the child’s death.

“We have classified the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder,” which carries the death penalty upon conviction.

The probe at the family’s house is ongoing. – The Vibes, June 7, 2021
