KUALA LUMPUR – The government’s decision to impose a full lockdown is beginning to yield the intended effect, said Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan, hitting out at the “grumbling cluster”.
In a statement today, the Bersatu information chief expressed relief following the Health Ministry’s announcement that the Covid-19 infectivity rate, or R-naught, yesterday dipped to 0.99.
“I am also drawn to the SEIR (susceptible-exposed-infectious-removed) model of actual daily reported cases in comparison to forecast case numbers if there were no SOP compliance, as explained by Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah a couple of days ago.
“If we observe the data, we can conclude that without SOP compliance, Malaysia would certainly face higher case numbers.”
Putrajaya’s move to impose the lockdown negates all accusations that it did not have a detailed plan, he said.
“The reality is that we now continue to see positive results thanks to the government’s actions. Despite many parties continuing to complain incessantly to win political brownie points, the data shows that we are on the right path, and we will be successful if we continue to abide by all the government’s directives.”
The opposition – which Wan Saiful described as the “grumbling cluster” – can continue to complain because it will always find ways to do so, seeking personal attention.
“I call upon all of us, irrespective of whether you are an ordinary person or someone in (a) position (of power), to keep abiding by the SOPs.
“What matters is that we take care of one another, our relatives and our neighbours, so that we play our part in the battle against Covid-19.”
The government will continue to work towards issuing and enforcing various SOPs, he said.
