KUALA LUMPUR – Former Kemaman MP Abd Rahman Yusof has died, his family confirmed this evening. He was 64.

His son M. Muhsin Abd Rahman said the PKR politician breathed his last today, in an update posted on his late father's Facebook profile around 8pm this evening.

“Indeed, we are witnesses that Allahyarham (God bless his soul) was a pious person and loved to forge friendships,” the post read.

“He always helped people facing difficulties and in need. May Allah accept his good deeds and may it last. May Allah unite the deceased with his beloved in Paradise.”

On Facebook, PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim confirmed he received news of Rahman’s passing.

“I received news about my confidante, friend, and former Kemaman parliamentarian Abd Rahman Yusof, who has returned to his maker,” he said.

“I am praying for his family in these testing times, and may his soul be placed among the pious.”

In an earlier post this afternoon, Muhsin said his father was near death at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Hospital after battling stage 4 lung cancer.

Rahman was the Kemaman MP between 1999 and 2004 after wresting the seat from Barisan Nasional candidate Wan Zaki Wan Muda, with a majority of 1,535 of 40,878 votes in the Terengganu constituency.

The former MP, who graduated with a MBA in finance at the University of Central Missouri in the United States in 1984, was also a former chief political secretary for Anwar.

Rahman was Terengganu’s first PKR state chairman and a former member of the party's central leadership committee. – The Vibes, June 7, 2021
