KUALA LUMPUR – The Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has pointed out that it is unfair for Selangor to have only received 615,210 doses of Covid-19 vaccines instead of 2.9 million doses, seeing that the state’s population number is around 6.5 million people.
In a statement today, the ruler expressed his shock over the data confirmed by the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF) as of June 1, 2021.
“His Royal Highness regrets to see that daily positive cases in Selangor are increasing to a total of cumulative positive cases reaching 203,520 cases, including 961 deaths as of June 7, 2021. His Royal Highness hopes that CITF will hasten and increase the vaccine doses for the state.
“His Royal Highness was shocked when CITF confirmed that up till June 1, 2021, Selangor has only received 615,210 Covid-19 vaccine doses and not the 2.9 million doses as claimed.
“His Royal Highness firmly said that it is unfair that the number of vaccine doses is not equitable to the population size of Selangor, which stands at 6.5 million people,” said the statement issued by his private secretary Datuk Mohamad Munir Bani.
The sultan also reminded the federal government that Selangor is still the biggest contributor for Malaysia’s gross domestic product – therefore priority must be given to the state.
He decreed that under the critical situation faced by Malaysia now, the lives of its people must be prioritised above all other agendas.
The ruler also said that the number of vaccination centres in the rural areas of Selangor must be increased.
“His Royal Highness is of the opinion that drive-through or mobile clinics can speed up the vaccination process and give it more area to cover.
“His Royal Highness also praised the efforts of the Selangor state government, which is aggressively conducting free Covid-19 swab tests for everyone in the state,” said the statement.
Sultan Sharafuddin also advised those who have received their jabs to remain wary and vigilant, while voicing his disappointment and unhappiness with anti-vaccine elements in Selangor.
He expressed his hope that his subjects will not be influenced by such ignorant perspectives. – The Vibes, June 8, 2021
