JOHOR BARU – The field hospital in the Sultanah Aminah Hospital (HSA) compound here is expected to begin operation on June 17.
State Health and Environment Committee chairman R. Vidyananthan said the Malaysian Armed Forces, which is setting up the field hospital, has agreed to provide extra facilities for the treatment of Covid-19 patients at HSA.
The field hospital is also needed as there is a 30% increase in the number of coronavirus patients at government hospitals in the district since the start of Hari Raya Aidilfitri, he added.
“It (the field hospital) will be equipped with four intensive care unit beds and 60 hospital beds, in stages.
“The length of operation of the field hospital will depend on the Covid-19 situation in the state, especially in Johor Baru and nearby districts.”
Vidyananthan said the armed forces will also deploy three officers and 30 paramedics to assist HSA medical staff at the field hospital and ensure the smooth running of operation.
As of June 6, 1,247 Covid-19 patients have been treated in government hospitals in the state.
Of that total, 105 require intensive care treatment, while 82 need ventilator support.
“There are 24 patients receiving treatment at several private hospitals here, with two cases requiring ventilators,” said Vidyananthan. – Bernama, June 8, 2021
