TAIPING – The Perak government will assist residents under the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) enforcement by channelling sufficient basic essentials to them.
Menteri Besar Datuk Saarani Mohamad said this measure was taken to ensure that those badly impacted by the EMCO would not be short of foodstuff like rice, flour, sugar, and cooking oil which could affect their health.
“We will also be giving them chicken and sardines after this, but the residents must understand that these cannot be given to all families as some can still afford to buy them at the grocery shops or ask the shopkeepers to deliver them to their homes.
“However, there are areas under the EMCO where residents need aid in the form of basic items if the shops are not opened,” he told reporters during his visit to the Disaster Operations Control Centre (PKOB) in Taman Berkat here today.
He said the government sympathised with residents placed under the EMCO but urged them to stay home and follow the standard operating procedure in order to break the Covid-19 chain.
“They need to be patient these two weeks and we understand their situation of not being allowed to go out,” he added.
Saarani also said that any volunteers or quarters that wished to contribute items to residents in areas under the EMCO should send these to the PKOB.
“We don’t allow them to send the contributions directly to the residents but those running the PKOB would deliver them,” he added.
The EMCO in Perak is enforced in the Kinta, Kerian, Manjung, Larut, Matang and Selama, as well as Hulu Perak districts from June 6 until 19.
Saarani said providing aid would also be considered for those at Politeknik Sultan Azlan Shah, Mualim that would come under the EMCO from tomorrow until June 22. – Bernama, June 8, 2021
