[UPDATED] Covid-19: 6,239 fresh cases, 905 in intensive care, 75 deaths

KUALA LUMPUR – The daily Covid-19 caseload in the country increased to 6,239 today, making for a total of 633,891 since the pandemic began.

Selangor leads with 2,291 infections, followed by Kuala Lumpur with 704 and Negri Sembilan (507).

Johor registered 468 cases, Sarawak (419), Kelantan (340), Pahang and Sabah (232 each), Labuan (200), Penang (194), Perak (175), Terengganu (171), Melaka (150) and Kedah (135).

Putrajaya registered 17 cases, and Perlis, four.

The Health Ministry reported 75 fresh coronavirus fatalities, pushing up the death toll to 3,611.

It said there are 905 patients in intensive care, of whom 453 are on ventilators.

A further 7,386 recoveries were registered, making for a cumulative 548,705.

Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the 75 deaths today comprised 23 in Selangor, 18 in Johor, seven in Kelantan, five each in Kedah and Kuala Lumpur, three each in Sabah, Melaka and Negri Sembilan, and one each in Penang, Terengganu and Labuan.

The country has a total of 2,400 clusters, including 15 new ones today. A total of 1,666 clusters have ended, while 734 remain active.

Dr Noor Hisham said of the new clusters today, 13 are related to workplaces, one from the community and one from a private education institution.

Terengganu recorded the Industri Teluk Kalong workplace cluster with 103 cases.

Selangor’s Alam Jaya Dua cluster in Kuala Selangor and Gombak logged 62 cases, while its Industri Balkong Tujuh cluster in Hulu Langat, Petaling and Gombak has 36, and Sg Rasau cluster in Klang, Petaling and Kuala Langat has 35.

Penang recorded the Lorong Perusahaan 8A cluster in Seberang Prai Utara, Seberang Prai Tengah and Seberang Prai Selatan with 34 cases. All are workplace clusters.

Kelantan’s Gong Mengkeleh community cluster in Pasir Puteh logged 20 cases, while the sole private education institution cluster, Putra Sembilan, in Putrajaya and Sepang has 10 cases. – The Vibes, June 9, 2021
