Sarawak DMC lodges report over netizen’s claim state short-changed of AZ jabs

MIRI – The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee has lodged a report against a Facebook user for alleging irregularities in the distribution of the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine in the state.

Kuching police chief Ahsmon Bajah in a statement today said the report was lodged in Kuching yesterday.

He added that police are investigating the case with the help of the Malaysia Communications and Multimedia Commission.

“The committee has lodged a report against the Facebook user for claiming that the number of AstraZeneca shots in Sarawak is not what was promised by the federal government.

“The post can create confusion among the public and cause negative views against the state government.”

He said police are investigating the user under Section 4 of the Emergency (Essential Powers) Ordinance 2021.

Yesterday, Sarawak started dispensing the AstraZeneca vaccine here and in Kuching.

The state is also in the process of vaccinating its 2.2 million adult population with the Pfizer-BioNTech and Sinovac vaccines for those who registered for the shot.

Last week, a tuition teacher pleaded not guilty to posting fake news on Facebook at a sessions court in Johor Baru, Johor, in what is believed to be the first case since the emergency ordinance came into effect in March. – The Vibes, June 9, 2021
