KUALA LUMPUR – The National Security Council has decided to extend the third movement control order (MCO 3.0), which was originally slated to end on June 14, to June 28.
In a press statement this evening, Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the decision was made after taking into account still-high daily Covid-19 cases, which have yet to fall below the 5,000 mark.
The present standard operating procedures governing industrial, commercial and manufacturing activities remain, he said.
Sarawak Disaster Management Committee chairman Datuk Douglas Uggah Embas, meanwhile, said the state, too, will extend its MCO by another two weeks.
Ismail Sabri said Health Ministry reports have shown 18 coronavirus cases detected in a screening of 208 Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) students within a week.
“The Health Ministry found the virus to be spreading among students, with a high infectivity rate in the locality.”
In view of this, the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) will be imposed on the UUM campus in Sintok, Kedah, from June 13 to 26.
The order will also be implemented in Kg Kadazan in Tawau, Sabah, for the same period, following the detection of 14 cases out of 45 people tested.
Other areas in Sabah to be under the two-week EMCO include Kg Lobou 1 and Kg Bukit Permai in Kota Kinabalu, as well as Taman Villa Felcra Nambazan in Penampang.
Meanwhile, two of the 21 subdistricts in Kuala Terengganu slated to see the EMCO lifted on June 12 will have the stepped-up movement curbs extended to June 26 following a spike in infections.
The two-week EMCO imposed on Taman Pertama, Taman Serendah and Taman Prima in Sabak Bernam, Selangor, on May 30 will end as scheduled.
In Mukah, Sarawak, four Sg Sebakong longhouses will exit the EMCO at midnight tomorrow, while the order implemented at Rumah Panjang Undum Anak Anchih in Sg Duan will end on June 16 as scheduled.
In Johor, the EMCO in Taman Sinar Harapan in Tampoi, Johor Baru, will be lifted tomorrow.
Kg Pasir Putih Blok B, the Taman Sri Balung flats and Kg Baru Pasir Putih in Tawau, too, will see the EMCO ending tomorrow. – The Vibes, June 11, 2021
