KOTA KINABALU – The number of Covid-19 infections Sabah continue to spike in the state due to the mass house-to-house contract tracing done by health authorities at enhanced lockdown localities.
The number of new cases hit a new daily high of 378 cases today, up 69 cases from yesterday’s 309 cases.
The state Disaster Management Committee for Covid-19 daily reports revealed most of the new cases are in Kudat in the northern part of Sabah with 79 new cases, up from yesterday’s 48.
Other districts reporting major increases in infections are Papar with 39 new cases (+39), Sandakan 38 new cases (+28), Telupid 15 cases (+14) and Sipitang 13 cases (+11).
The statement issued by the Sabah Local Government and Housing Ministry also stated there are five deaths in the state, while three new clusters were detected in Tawau, Nabawan and Sipitang.
The cluster in Tawau has been identified as Ambar Park cluster, which involved a 71-year-old Malaysian who was found positive on June 1.
The cluster is believed to caused by a thanksgiving ceremony held in Kg Kadazan near Ambar Park and health authorities found 15 more cases after screening 45 close contacts.
In Nabawan, an engagement party held in Kg Indah here had been the cause for the Indah cluster.
The index case involved a 34-year-old woman who had been found positive on May 22 after she was screened while undergoing an early treatment procedure.
Health authorities found 20 more positive cases thereafter after screening 124 contacts.
In Sipitang, the disease involved community infection after a 58-year-old man was confirmed positive on May 28.
The man had a history of inter-district travel, where he had travelled to Keningau on May 16 and also attended a house of worship near Sabah Forestry Industries.
The man showed symptoms like coughing, headache and malaise since May 23 and screening revealed 23 cases, with 13 more new cases today. – The Vibes, June 12, 2021
