GEORGE TOWN – Four men have been arrested to facilitate investigations following yesterday’s break-in of the Penang island mayor’s official residence in Jalan Park, Pulau Tikus.
The men, aged between 27 and 37, including two brothers, were picked up in about an hour after the report was lodged.
They were arrested by the Criminal Investigation Division of the Seberang Prai Utara district police in Bagan Ajam, Butterworth at 10.15am yesterday.
The break-in was reported by mayor Datuk Yew Tung Seang’s family members at 9am yesterday after finding the upper and lower rooms ransacked.
Among the missing items are a laptop, Louis Vuitton brand bag, mobile phone, foreign currency amounting to RM5,000, as well as a Honda CRV.
A review of closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage found that men entered the double-storey residence at 5am.
It is understood three of the suspects have criminal and drug records.
Meanwhile, Penang Police chief Datuk Sahabudin Abd Manan confirmed the incident and the arrest of the four suspects.
He said the police also managed to recover some of the stolen items.
“Currently, I cannot reveal further details because we are still tracking the remaining suspects and case items,” he said in a WhatsApp message last night.
The case is being investigated under Section 457 and Section 379A of the Penal Code. – The Vibes, June 13, 2021
