KUALA LUMPUR – The government is drafting a national recovery plan for the country to emerge from the Covid-19 pandemic, said Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
The prime minister said the plan, based on data, science and earlier preparations, including in terms of Covid-19 management, the economy and vaccination programme, will be presented to the National Security Council within the next week.
“Some of the key ministers involved have already sat down with me to present the draft. Basically good, but not yet refined.
“It is time we set an exit strategy or national recovery plan for us to get out of this problem, but this is a big challenge that depends on the cooperation and support of all parties,” he said.
Muhyiddin told this to reporters after visiting the mobile vaccination centre (PPV) at the Sri Johor People's Housing Programme (PPR) flats in Bandar Tun Razak here today. He was accompanied by Federal Territories Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa.
Muhyiddin said the plan was also, among others, to inform the people about the current developments and phases involving the management of Covid-19 in the country.
"This we will evaluate; it (plan) will have Phase 1, Phase 2… based on the data, for example if signs of (cases of) Covid-19 are on the decline, it still cannot be a time to celebrate as the phase has not been completed. If possible, we want cases to go down further.
"This means we have to help the Health Ministry (MoH) manage the healthcare system to ensure that it does not collapse... hospitals, beds, ventilators, hospital staff must be enough. We are implementing all these," he said.
In the meantime, Muhyiddin said the government is considering setting a deadline for the registration to get the Covid-19 vaccination.
He said currently, there is no deadline for the registration process.
"Let's say (we set it at) the end of July, so whoever hasn't registered yet, please register. If there are any left, we will help to register them so that everyone is in our system and we can plan the next phases until the vaccination programme is completed throughout country."
Meanwhile, Muhyiddin said Kuala Lumpur is expected to achieve herd immunity earlier, that is by August.
He said the expectation is based on the opening of more vaccination centres (PPV), including mega PPVs and mobile vaccination programmes that will enable many in the Federal Territory to receive their shots.
On the mobile vaccination programme, Muhyiddin said the method is one of the ways to expedite the vaccination programme and that the government plans to add more mobile PPVs in certain areas.
The implementation of the mobile vaccination pilot project, which began on June 7 at the Kg Muhibbah PPR here, is the outcome of a strategic collaboration between the Federal Territories Ministry, MoH, Kuala Lumpur City Hall and Yayasan Wilayah Persekutuan.
The programme is one of seven initiatives of the Wilayah Cakna 5.0 drive to ensure that 80% of residents of the federal capital are vaccinated by the end of August. – Bernama, June 13, 2021
