PUTRAJAYA – Media practitioners covering the upcoming Tokyo Olympics will receive the Covid-19 vaccine starting today, said national immunisation drive coordinating minister Khairy Jamaluddin.
He said the 38 involved in covering the Games are scheduled to get their first shot at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre in Kuala Lumpur.
“For those who have received the first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine, the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF) will arrange their appointments for the second dose before they leave for Tokyo.”
The Olympics will be held from July 23 to August 8.
At a press conference with Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba here, Khairy said 700 vaccination appointments have been given to journalists across the country, with more to follow this week.
“CITF needs to balance the need for vaccination for our media friends with that for the elderly, the disabled, and those with comorbidities, who are also prioritised under Phase 2 of the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme.”
On Wednesday, 98 members of the media received their first dose at Dewan Seroja here, followed by 123 in Perak two days later. – Bernama, June 14, 2021
