KUCHING – Organising “drug parties” has become a trend in Kuching and Padawan districts during the third movement control order (MCO 3.0), said Sarawak police commissioner Datuk Aidi Ismail.

Following the ban on entertainment centres operating in this period, such parties are being held behind closed doors at certain residences.

“However, during Op Parti Liar, the state Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) sniffed out these activities and arrested 41 people – 27 men and 14 women – aged between 18 and 42,” Aidi told a press conference here today.

The arrests were made in six raids carried out in the said districts from May 29 to early today, and involved various drug offences.

“The total estimated value of the drugs confiscated is RM7,000. Other seizures include Ecstasy-laced powdered juice weighing 409.65g, ketamine (9.5g), two Ecstasy pills and three Erimin 5 pills,” said Aidi.

Among the offences committed by those arrested are drug trafficking and being in possession of drugs, he said, adding that they have been detained under Sections 39B, 39A(2), 12(2) and 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

The state NCID also dismantled a drug storage space and processing lab in an apartment unit here on Wednesday, he said.

“In that operation, a local man was arrested under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act, with drugs worth RM250,000 seized.”

He said the suspect has been remanded for seven days. – Bernama, June 14, 2021
