KUALA LUMPUR – New Covid-19 cases rose back up past the 5,000 mark today, with 5,419 fresh infections.
Selangor again logged the lion’s share with 1,996, while Kuala Lumpur had 650 to put new Covid-19 cases in the Klang Valley at 2,646.
Sarawak had the second-highest number of new cases with 718, Negri Sembilan (396), Johor (366), Kedah (252), Kelantan (245), Sabah (230), Melaka (155), Labuan (138) and Penang (124).
Perak had 68 new infections, Terengganu (43), Pahang (32), Putrajaya (5) and Perlis (1).
The latest cases take the national total to 667,876.
The Health Ministry reported another 101 coronavirus fatalities, making for 4,069 deaths since the pandemic began.
Of the 922 patients in intensive care, 450 require respiratory assistance.
With another 6,831 recoveries, the total stands at 593,695.
Dr Noor Hisham said the 101 deaths today involved 50 in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur (11), Johor (10), Negri Sembilan (8) and Labuan (4).
Sabah, Pahang, Kedah, and Kelantan also recorded three cases each, Sarawak has two cases, while Penang, Melaka, Terengganu and Perak saw one death each.
He added that the country has a total of 2,513 clusters, including 19 identified today.
Clusters that have ended are at 1,745, while 778 clusters remained active.
He said 14 of the new clusters today are workplace clusters, four community ones, and one from a high-risk group.
Selangor recorded the Industri Balakong Baru 11 cluster in Hulu Langat with 61 cases, the Industri Pulau Meranti cluster in Sepang (57), the Industri Jalan Berangan cluster in Klang (74), the Industri Meranti cluster in Sepang (81), the Industri Jalan Serendah cluster in Petaling (24) and the Industri Perusahaan Dua Bangi cluster in Hulu Langat and Petaling (42). All the clusters in Selangor are related to workplaces.
Johor logged the Jalan Keluli Lama workplace cluster in Johor Baru with 12 cases and the Kasap workplace cluster in Segamat with nine cases.
Sarawak registered the Dulang workplace cluster in Subis, Miri and Bintulu with 39 cases, the Jalan Daya workplace cluster in Kuching (27), the Nanga Sejugam community cluster in Julau (64), the Nanga Strass community cluster in Meradong (29) and the Kampung Kolong community cluster in Kuching (44).
Penang recorded the Tingkat Perusahaan Empat workplace cluster in Seberang Prai with 25 cases, Melaka saw the Industri Teknologi Cheng 28 cluster with 27 cases, while Kedah logged the Dah Industri Arang workplace cluster in Kuala Muda and Sik with 17 cases.
Finally, Kuala Lumpur recorded the Wangsa Kuarza construction site cluster in Titiwangsa with 14 cases, the Desa Rejang community cluster in Titiwangsa (260) and the Jalan Mesra high-risk group cluster in Titiwangsa and Hulu Langat in Selangor (25). – The Vibes, June 15, 2021
