Single mum allegedly raped by cop charged with drug possession, distribution

KOTA BARU – A single mother, who claimed she was raped by a police officer while in custody, has been charged at the magistrates’ court here today with distributing and possessing drugs in a house earlier this month.

The 28-year-old woman was jointly charged with her 29-year-old ex-husband. They nodded their understanding after the charges were read out to them before magistrate Kamarul Hasyime Rosli.

Both were charged with distributing drugs believed to be 61g of methamphetamine at a house in Kg Bunut Payong, near here, at 4.20pm on June 4.

The former couple were charged under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and punishable under Section 39B(2) of the same act, which provides for the death penalty upon conviction.

They were also charged with possession of 13.6g of the same type of drug at the same place, time and date under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which, if convicted, can be punished under Section 39A(1) of the same act, which carries a maximum jail term of five years and whipping.

No plea was recorded from the two accused as the death penalty falls under the jurisdiction of the high court.

Deputy public prosecutor Siti Edabayu Subhan appeared for the prosecution, while the accused were unrepresented. The court fixed August 15 for re-mention.

On June 9, it was reported that a police officer was remanded to assist in the investigation of an oral sex and rape case involving the single mother at the district police headquarters here on June 5. – Bernama, June 15, 2021
