GEORGE TOWN – Penang welcomes cabin crew as volunteers at vaccination centres (PPVs) here to support and expedite the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme.
State Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin said Firefly has engaged the Penang government on having airline staff coordinate on-the-ground work at PPVs that will open soon.
“This will complement the mega PPVs, private hospitals and clinics. I believe the cabin crew will make for excellent volunteers, having been trained professionally in terms of hospitality, communication and people management,” he said after a virtual meeting with Firefly CEO Philip See on Friday.
Manpower and other resources need to grow in tandem with the number of PPVs opened by the state government so as to ensure a smooth and optimal vaccine roll-out, said Yeoh.
“We commend Firefly for supporting the vaccination drive, the state, and of course, the people.
“The responsibility of battling the pandemic does not lie entirely in the hands of the government. In fact, an effective 3P (public-private-people) partnership is what we need.”
Firefly has started on the plan in the Klang Valley, and is looking into making Penang its northern hub, he added. – The Vibes, June 16, 2021
