KUALA LUMPUR – The second Covid-19 test that Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin underwent on Wednesday has returned negative, confirming that he is free of the disease.
According to a statement by the Prime Minister’s Office posted on his Facebook page today, Muhyiddin’s self-quarantine ended yesterday.
“As previously announced, Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin was advised by the Health Ministry to self-quarantine for 14 days.
“The ministry performed a Covid-19 screening on the prime minister’s second sample on October 14, and the result was confirmed negative on October 15.
“As such, the Prime Minister’s Office would like to announce that both Covid-19 tests conducted on the prime minister throughout his self-quarantine period came back negative, and his self-quarantine ended on October 16.”
Nevertheless, it said, Muhyiddin chaired this morning’s National Security Council (NSC) meeting on the coronavirus via videoconference as a precaution.
“The NSC meetings have taken place daily since October 7.”
Muhyiddin was advised to self-quarantine after chairing an NSC meeting on October 3 that was attended by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri, who tested positive for the virus. – Bernama, October 17, 2020
