THREE family members, including a 12-year-old girl, were killed after an Immigration Department truck is believed to have run a red light, crashed into a car before hitting a pedestrian on Jalan Sultan Ismail early this morning.

The victims, a 53-year-old man and his two daughters aged 25 and 12, died at the scene following the crash at the Maju Junction traffic light intersection.

The man's wife, a 55-year-old woman, suffered injuries to her head, hands and both legs before being sent to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) Red Zone for treatment.

Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief ACP Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said the accident involved an empty Isuzu truck, two cars and four pedestrians.

According to him, initial investigations found that the truck was driven by a 43-year-old man from the Kuala Lumpur Immigration Office heading to Chow Kit to pick up detainees following an illegal immigrant operation.

"The truck is believed to have entered the intersection while the traffic light was red, with its beacon lights and siren activated," he said in a statement today.

At the same time, a car driven by a 50-year-old man was moving straight through the intersection when the traffic lights on its route were green before a collision occurred in the middle of the intersection,” he said.

Mohd Zamzuri said the lorry lost control and skidded before hitting four pedestrians from the family and a car driven by a 38-year-old man who was stopping at the intersection.

He said the three drivers involved were not injured.

“The truck driver and the car driver, aged 43 and 50 respectively, have been detained to assist in the investigation.

“Breath tests to detect alcohol content and initial urine screening tests on both drivers yielded negative results,” he said.

He said the police were also conducting investigations at the scene of the incident, obtaining closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage, locating independent witnesses and taking the vehicle involved for further inspection and investigation.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact the Jalan Tun H.S. Lee Traffic Police Station at 03-2071 9999 or any nearby police station. – August 19, 2026
