[UPDATED] Covid-19 cases climb back up to 6,440, 74 deaths logged

KUALA LUMPUR – Daily Covid-19 cases in Malaysia climbed back up to above the 6,000-mark, with 6,440 infections logged in the past 24 hours. 

This takes the cumulative tally to 685,204, the Health Ministry said today.

Of the new cases, only five are imported.

Malaysia also logged 74 fatalities to the coronavirus, taking the death toll to 4,276.

Selangor again saw the highest number of infections with 2,095 cases logged, followed by Negri Sembilan (870), Kuala Lumpur (816), Johor (592), Sarawak (536), Perak (357) and Melaka (223).

Kelantan logged 200 cases, followed by Sabah (199), Kedah (159), Labuan (152), Penang (122), Pahang (79), Terengganu (32), Putrajaya (6) and Perlis (2).

Meanwhile, there were 6,861 recoveries from the virus across the country, taking total recoveries to 615,326.

A total of 894 remain in intensive care, with 451 requiring breathing support.

Regarding clusters, the Health Ministry reported that 810 remain active including the 23 new ones identified today.

Workplace clusters in Selangor, Johor, Melaka, Kuala Lumpur, Sarawak, Sabah and Perak account for 17 of them, recording 533 infections in total.

As for clusters in the community, the ministry identified four involving Sarawak, Penang, Kelantan, and Terengganu, which recorded 99 new cases.

One cluster involving high-risk individuals was identified in Selangor with 12 infections, as well as one detention centre cluster in Perak with 327 cases.  – The Vibes, June 18, 2021
