KUALA LUMPUR – The sense of unity among Malaysians in the Covid-19 fight is still lacking, contributing to the high number of infections, said Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
The health director-general said standard operating procedure compliance remains an issue more than a year into the pandemic.
“I think it is lacking because there is actually discord in terms of our unity. Instead of fighting the virus, we are fighting one another when it comes to opinions, approaches, et cetera,” he said during the Malaysia International Webinar on Psychological First Aid organised by Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris today.
He assured that every decision made amid the pandemic underwent thorough consideration.
“When you have lives and livelihoods, (the need to balance) health and the economy, how do you strike the right balance? It is very challenging to ensure a minimum impact on the economy and a maximum outcome in terms of health.
“This is why sometimes, it’s not straightforward. You need to take into consideration many issues before arriving at a decision.” – Bernama, June 19, 2021
