KEPALA BATAS – A total of 80,000 individuals have registered to participate in the Malaysia Vaccine Support Volunteers (MyVac) initiative nationwide since registration began in March.
Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican said of the total, 4,500 volunteers under the ministry have been assigned to 332 vaccination centres (PPVs), with the rest waiting for more jab sites to open.
“The volunteers are assigned to support and facilitate the process not only for frontliners at the PPVs, but also the public who come to get their jab.
“So far, I am satisfied with MyVac. It’s a volunteer movement to help the people, to ensure we achieve herd immunity by getting vaccinated against Covid-19,” he told reporters after visiting the Millenium Hall PPV here yesterday.
He said the ministry expects that more MyVac volunteers will be needed to ensure the national immunisation drive runs smoothly, as more PPVs are opened in rural areas, including Orang Asli settlements.
"The number of PPVs that will be opened nationwide could reach 600, so we expect that more MyVac volunteers will be required.”
The Kepala Batas MP also visited the jab site operating out of the Advanced Medical and Dental Institute of Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) here that started operations yesterday.
The PPV can cater to up to 400 vaccine recipients daily.
“The PPV at USM administered shots to 50 people today (yesterday), and the number is expected to increase to 400,” said Reezal Merican. – Bernama, June 20, 2021
