MIRI – The government must remove the red tape slowing down Covid-19 vaccination, including by allowing walk-ins at all hospitals and clinics.
Parti Sarawak Bersatu secretary-general George Lo in a statement today said the outbreak in the state has reached a critical level, and yet, the MySejahtera app is slow to process registrations, and fix appointment dates and venues.
“Many people have applied through the app and waited months. But till now, they have yet to get an appointment date.
It is taking too long for those who registered via MySejahtera to get a slot, when the system is supposed to be computerised. After submitting an application online, an appointment date and venue should be given immediately.
“However, many in Sarawak have been waiting months to get their first shot.”
He said numerous people who submitted queries to MySejahtera’s help desk do not get a response.
In a health crisis as deadly as Covid-19, he said, the state and federal governments must put a stop to the bureaucracy and allow jabs to be swiftly administered.
“Everyone must be allowed to be vaccinated quickly. So, the only practical solution is to allow walk-ins at all hospitals and clinics.
“This method is already implemented in developed countries.”
Lo said Sarawak’s healthcare system will collapse if the daily coronavirus infection rate keeps rising.
The only viable way to end the surge is to immediately allow walk-ins for vaccination, he said.
The state has lost 380 lives to the disease, logging a total of more than 59,000 infections as of yesterday.
It is one of the three worst-hit states by the pandemic. – The Vibes, June 21, 2021
