[UPDATED] Daily Covid-19 count down to 4,611, 880 in ICU, 69 deaths

KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia’s daily Covid-19 caseload continues its slide to 4,611 today from yesterday’s 5,293, making for a total of 701,019 since the pandemic began.

The last time the country saw fewer than 5,000 new cases was on June 14, when 4,949 were logged.

Selangor retains the lead with 1,346 fresh infections, followed by Sarawak (682) and Perak (453).

Negri Sembilan saw 437 cases, Johor (314), Kuala Lumpur (310), Kelantan (219), Melaka (205), Kedah (182), Sabah (166), Labuan (130), Penang (84), Pahang (50), Terengganu (18) and Putrajaya (15).

Perlis is the sole state without new infections today.

The Health Ministry reported another 69 fatalities, making for a total of 4,477.

Of the 880 patients in intensive care, 452 require breathing aid.

Another 5,439 recoveries were registered, taking the overall figure to 633,624.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham said today that the 69 deaths involved 24 in Selangor, 11 in Kuala Lumpur, nine in Negri Sembilan, and seven in Johor. 

Kelantan and Labuan recorded four each, three in Kedah, while Terengganu, Sabah, and Sarawak saw two deaths each, and Melaka saw one. 

Between January 1, 2021 and May 19, 2021, Malaysia recorded 578,105 Covid-19 cases. 

Of the total, 398,846 cases (69%) were sporadic cases, with Selangor recording the highest number of 151,725 ​​cases (38%), Kuala Lumpur 44,517 cases (11.2%), and Sarawak 40,889 case (10.3%).

Dr Noor Hisham said 14 new clusters today were related to workplaces, seven clusters from the community, and one from high-risk groups. 

In Selangor, the Industri Jalan Bebas Tiga cluster in Klang and Petaling Jaya recorded 24 cases, while the Industri Jalan Engaging Ampang cluster in Gombak recorded eight, the Industri Jati Kiri cluster in Klang and Petaling Jaya, 184, and the Industri Batu Besar cluster in Klang 130.

All new clusters in Selangor were related to workplace clusters. 

Johor logged the Tapak Bina Gunung Satu cluster with 15 cases, the Perindustrian Sri Plentong cluster 14 cases, the Jalan Pekeliling Industri cluster 26 cases, and the Jalan Bioteknologi cluster nine cases. 

All new clusters in Johor were reported in Johor Baru. 

Penang recorded the Industri Bukit Tengah cluster in Seberang Prai Tengah with 24 cases, and the Lebuh Kurau Tiga cluster in Seberang Prai Utara, Seberang Prai Tengah, dan Seberang Prai Selatan with 12 cases.

Negri Sembilan registered the Jalan Jelai-Rompin cluster in Jempol with 42 cases today. 

In Sabah, the Samedra cluster in Kota Kinabalu recorded 25 cases while the Serudung Baru cluster in Tawau registered 19 cases. 

Melaka logged the Jalan Merbok Ayer Keroh cluster in Melaka Tengah and Jasin with 21 new cases. 

Sarawak recorded the Jalan Baru Tatau-Bintulu cluster in Tatau with 22 cases, the Kg Muara Tebas cluster in Kuching with 19 cases, the Kevok cluster in Telang Usan with 58 cases, and the Quadruplex Lapan Enam cluster in Miri with 20 cases. 

Finally, Kelantan saw the Kg Tiong community cluster in Kota Baru with 13 cases, the Jalan Jeram Pasu cluster in Pasir Puteh with 29 cases, the Taman Rantau Mas cluster in Pasir Mas with 10 cases, and the Jalan Tok Janggut cluster in Bachok, Kota Baru, Machang, and Pasir Puteh with 16 cases. – The Vibes, June 21, 2021
