KOTA KINABALU – Failure to hold a Parliament sitting soon is an act of treason against the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, said Sabah Umno Youth, insisting that the Dewan Rakyat should reconvene within a fortnight.
Its chief, Abdul Aziz Julkarnain, said the Sabah chapter stands in solidarity with Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who urged the Perikatan Nasional government to hold a Parliament session in 14 days as a sign of loyalty and respect to the Agong’s decree.
“Failure to implement the decree is considered to be a form of treachery and disrespect to the Agong, who is the nation’s foremost leader.
“Sabah Umno Youth also calls on top party leaders to take a firm decision should the PN government refuse to hold a Parliament sitting soon.”
Zahid issued the ultimatum yesterday, warning that failure to do so will see Umno calling a Supreme Council meeting to discuss its next step.
Aziz said the federal government has failed to address the Covid-19 pandemic, especially the slow vaccination progress and economic management.
Covid-19 infections continue to worsen and new cases increase daily despite the state of emergency, he added.
He also called on the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah government to hold the state assembly as soon as possible to debate the state’s slow vaccination progress.
Sabah aims to inoculate all 2.9 million of its population, but only 8.5% have received at least the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine as of June 13. – The Vibes, June 22, 2021
