KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia today saw a slight increase to 5,244 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours.

This takes the cumulative tally to 711,006, the Health Ministry said.

Of the new cases, only seven are imported.

A total of 83 fatalities were also reported today, taking the death toll to 4,637.

Meanwhile, the country saw 6,372 recoveries, taking the nation’s total to 645,553.

The number of those in intensive care stands at 879, with 433 requiring breathing support.

Selangor remains the state with the highest number of infections at 2,001, followed by Negri Sembilan (677), Sarawak (577), Kuala Lumpur (531), Johor (282) and Pahang (245).

The states that saw fewer than 200 cases are Kedah with 189, followed by Melaka (180), Penang (159), Sabah (129), Kelantan (81), Labuan (77), Perak (75), Terengganu (27), Putrajaya (13) and Perlis (1).

Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham said of today’s deaths, 35 were recorded in Selangor; nine in Kuala Lumpur, eight in Johor; seven each in Sabah and Negri Sembilan, six in Kelantan, three each in Sarawak and Labuan; two in Perak; and one death each in Kedah, Malacca, and Perlis.

Meanwhile, 11 victims were listed as not having known comorbidities, and the youngest was 26 years old.

He said 15 new clusters today were workplace related, seven from the community, while detention centre, and high-risk groups had one cluster each.

In Selangor, Jalan Enam Selatan Dua cluster in Sepang, Kuala Langat, Petaling, Klang, Hulu Selangor and Hulu Langat recorded 92 cases making it the highest worksite cluster of the day.

Meanwhile in Sarawak, the Nanga Tada community cluster in Kanowit recorded 107 cases. Additionally, the Kg Segambut Dalam community cluster in Kuala Lumpur recorded 70 cases.

The Jalan Sepang high-risk group cluster in Sepang, Selangor recorded 18 cases and the Tembok Jelebu detention centre cluster in Jelebu, Negri Sembilan recorded 44 cases. – The Vibes, June 23, 2021
