Company manager under MACC remand in probe into RM60 mil ministry contracts

PUTRAJAYA – A company manager has been remanded for four days from today to facilitate investigations into alleged corruption in the procurement of RM60 million worth of contracts under a ministry.

A Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission source said the remand order was issued following the arrest yesterday of the ministry’s assistant division secretary, who is believed to have received bribes of over RM1 million for helping firms secure projects under the ministry since 2016.

The company manager is believed to have been in cahoots with the assistant division secretary in securing projects worth RM60 million since 2018, said the source.

“The syndicate is believed to have a monopoly on about 16 projects, in which 11 bribe payments were made.”

The 43-year-old manager was arrested about midnight at the MACC headquarters here after he came to give his statement.

The remand order until June 27 was issued by Putrajaya magistrates’ court assistant registrar Roslizawati Mohd Zanin following an application by the anti-graft agency today.

The ministry assistant division secretary is being held for five days beginning yesterday.

The case is being investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009. – Bernama, June 24, 2021
