KUALA LUMPUR – The government is still in the process of fine-tuning the assistance provided under the National Recovery Plan (NRP), said Finance Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Tengku Aziz.
He said it is also studying measures that can be introduced to ensure the survival of both lives and livelihoods in facing challenges in the upcoming months.
“Nevertheless, the available assistance will be channelled continuously, including the recently introduced Pemerkasa Plus package to ease the people's burden during Phase 1 of the current movement control order (MCO 3.0),” Tengku Zafrul said in the Laksana report today.
He said NRP is being implemented in phases, with key indicators that need to be achieved before transitioning from one phase to the next.
The main indicators being monitored are the number of daily Covid-19 cases, the capacity of the public health system based on intensive care unit bed utilisation, and the percentage of the population that has completed both vaccine doses.
To protect against financial and cash-flow problems, said Tengku Zafrul, unemployed individuals and those in sectors not allowed to operate during the lockdown are eligible for an automatic loan moratorium for three months or a 50% reduction in instalment payments for six months.
With the remaining RM100 billion from the economic stimulus package and RM200 billion from Budget 2021 left to be spent, he said, the ministry will continue to monitor and refine other forms of assistance to be channelled later under NRP. – Bernama, June 24, 2021
