PETALING JAYA – It is time for Umno to accept the fact that the party is losing Malay voters’ support, said Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz.

He said the outcome of the Selangor state election was the final warning.

“The formation of the state government between PH and BN should not be used to hide the fact that it was a dismal performance by the BN.

“Out of 12 seats BN contested in Selangor, it won only two. This includes the one which was originally a DAP seat.

“The results in Selangor revealed that the more Malay voters in the constituency, the harder for Umno to win,” he said in a Facebook post today.

Since the results, Tengku Zafrul said many Umno members had come forward to express their disappointment and sadness after the party was rejected despite serving the state for the past 15 years.

“If this is not regarded as the final warning, I don’t know what else needs to be done before we realise we have been rejected,” he said.

The international trade and investment minister said Selangor Umno needs to make its direction and ideology clear and accepted by the grassroots, as well as giving the people confidence in their trajectory.

“I sincerely hope the party leadership will rise and correct the party’s current situation, and make a serious effort to regain the trust of the people and the grassroots,” he said.

He said this is vital for Umno’s future and survival, especially in Selangor.

“Everyone in Umno, including me, needs to reflect and rebuild the party’s strength so we can stand strong again on our own, without depending on any other party,” he added. – The Vibes, August 14, 2023
