KOTA BARU – A 48-year-old homeless man in police custody died while receiving treatment at Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital on Wednesday.
Kelantan deputy police chief Abdullah Mohammed Piah said the victim suffered muscle spasms while in the Kota Baru police station lock-up about 12.20am the same day.
“He was taken to hospital for treatment, but was reported to have died at 7.50pm.
“The post-mortem showed that he died due to bleeding in the brain. He had no external injuries. Initial investigations showed that he also suffered from epilepsy,” Abdullah told reporters here today.
He said the man, from Kg Bechah Mulong in Peringat here, was arrested in Jalan Maju on Tuesday for being in possession of a dangerous weapon.
“Police arrested him following complaints from the public. It was reported that the man seemed ‘unstable’, and he was talking to himself.
“Police conducted a body search, and found a knife.”
He said the man was detained under Section 6(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958.
“He had a previous record, having been convicted under Section 6(1) of the same act and Section 411 of the Penal Code.” – Bernama, June 25, 2021
