SHAH ALAM – Selangor’s Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has consented to the state assembly convening from August 23 to September 3.
State Speaker Ng Suee Lim said the ruler, through his private secretary Datuk Mohamad Munir Bani, in a reply stated his consent for the legislature to meet on these dates, following a letter submitted to the sultan on Wednesday.
“His Royal Highness also agreed to grace the opening ceremony on August 23. There will be a royal address by the sultan, after which the meeting will be adjourned. The next day, assemblymen will debate on the motion of thanks for the royal address.
“The opening of the state assembly will be held in-person, not in a hybrid format, with strict standard operating procedures in place. All assemblymen will be given enough time to debate,” he told Bernama.
He said all media outlets are invited to cover the opening day, but priority will be accorded to reporters who have received both doses of the Covid-19 vaccine.
If the sitting were to be held during the emergency, he said, Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari would seek approval from Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah to hold the session. – Bernama, June 25, 2021
