KUALA LUMPUR – Police are tracking down a man over an allegedly seditious, racist and insulting statement against the royal institution and government that went viral on social media on Friday.
Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director Datuk Seri Abd Jalil Hassan said N. Ganesparan, 39, who is believed to be in Germany, is wanted for making a statement that could threaten public order and national security.
The probe is being undertaken by the Classified Crimes Investigation Unit under CID’s Prosecution/Legal Division.
“Yesterday (Friday), investigations revealed that the suspect uploaded a video titled ‘Racist in Vacine Malaysia’ to the Ganesparan Nadaraja Facebook account,” he said in a statement last night.
“In the video, the suspect claims that the purportedly low-quality and ineffective Sinovac vaccine is being administered to non-Muslims, while Muslims are given the high-quality Pfizer vaccine.”
He said the clip has elicited at least 550 responses, 247 comments and 395 “shares”, and racked up some 10,000 views.
“The suspect is being investigated under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948, Section 506(b) of the Penal Code, for making a statement that could threaten public order, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.”
He said police have, since 2018, opened 18 investigation papers on the suspect under the Sedition Act, as well as the Penal Code, including Sections 298A, 500, 504 and 505(b).
“Checks with the Immigration Department showed that the suspect’s last exit was on November 2, 2017 through Kuala Lumpur International Airport. His passport was cancelled on November 25 last year.
“We urge those with information on the suspect to come forward to assist in the investigations.” – Bernama, June 27, 2021
