KOTA KINABALU – Limited Covid-19 vaccine supply has hindered Sabah’s capacity to provide 30,000 jabs a day to only between 12,000 and 13,000, said Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun.
In a statement last night, the state Covid-19 spokesman said while Sabah aims to administer 30,000 injections daily, this depends on supply.
“When vaccine supplies are delivered to Malaysia in July and August, Sabah will get around 729,000 in July and 1.1 million more in August.
“With the incoming supply, Sabah is able to vaccinate its citizens.”
He said districts without active vaccination registration have pulled down the state’s immunisation rate.
Masidi said more vaccination centres will be opened in the next two months as Sabah ramps up its efforts, including by having outreach programmes.
Walk-ins will also be introduced, he added.
Previously, the state government said it targeted the inoculation of its 2.9 million population by year-end.
As of Friday, a total of 363,682 individuals in Sabah had been vaccinated, of whom 158,108 received their second dose. – The Vibes, June 27, 2021
