KUALA LUMPUR – Police are investigating a woman’s claim, which was widely shared on social media yesterday, of being contacted by a policeman via WhatsApp after submitting her interstate travel application.

Wangsa Maju district police chief Ashari Abu Samah in a statement yesterday said the probe follows the 26-year-old investment analyst’s tweet on the incident.

“The woman said she went to the Setapak police station to obtain permission to undertake interstate travel before she was contacted by the officer.

“She then lodged a report at the Gombak police station at 7.30pm, and will be called up to have her statement recorded soon.”

Police have identified the officer who allegedly contacted the woman, he said, adding that personnel found guilty of such actions will be dealt with sternly.

The investigation is being conducted by the Kuala Lumpur police headquarters’ Integrity and Standard Compliance Department.

The woman shared a screenshot of a WhatsApp conversation with an individual claiming to be a policeman, and questioned the action of the said individual contacting her in that manner. – Bernama, June 30, 2021
