KUALA LUMPUR – Umno Youth chief Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki refuted a news report of him being seen leaving the Umno headquarters yesterday evening.

In a Facebook post early this morning, Asyraf denied leaving Menara Dato’ Onn after sunset, following meetings that reportedly took place among several Supreme Council members at the building yesterday.

In the post, Asyraf refuted a report by the Agenda Daily portal asking who Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had met as Umno Supreme Council members left the building before 8pm.

“This is truly slander. They took a photo of a vehicle belonging to someone else but mentioned me being ‘seen riding a vehicle leaving the party headquarters before 8pm’,” he said in the post, which was accompanied by a screenshot of the article.

“At that time I was home teaching my fifth child how to read, after breaking fast and performing Maghrib prayers with my family.”

The article was referring to meetings held between Zahid and the party’s top brass to decide the timing of the party’s separation from the Perikatan Nasional government.

Zahid had reportedly held a meeting with some party leaders in Menara Dato’ Onn yesterday afternoon to discuss the party’s withdrawal from the PN government this week.

Later in the evening, some Supreme Council members, including Zahid, were also invited to another discreet meeting organised by Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob at Wisma Perwira, which is situated at the latter’s Defence Ministry headquarters.

Brushing aside the meetings, Asyraf also questioned whether Agenda Daily was linked to the Communications and Multimedia Ministry’s Community Communications Department or Bersatu.

“As I explained, under the EMCO (enhanced movement control order), Supreme Council meetings would surely be done online. For now, the notice for meetings has yet to be issued by the secretary-general.”

He also urged those wanting to know Umno’s stance to be patient.

“What’s certain is (we) still hold on to the general assembly’s stance of ‘No DAP, No PKR, No PPBM (Bersatu)’,” Asyraf said. – The Vibes, July 6, 2021
