SHAH ALAM – Selangor’s Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has urged Muslims in the state to understand the essence of today’s Friday sermon about the prohibition on committing suicide.
According to a statement on the Selangor Royal Office’s Facebook page, the ruler reminds the faithful that suicide is an act forbidden in Islam and a major sin.
There is a hadith that specifically states those who take their own lives will be severely punished in the hereafter, said the statement.
The sultan is of the view that the content of this week’s sermon, titled “The Obligation of Preserving Life”, should be taken as a guide by Muslims.
The statement calls on them to strengthen their faith, so that they do not turn to suicide as a “solution” to the challenges in life.
All quarters are urged to provide backing to those requiring emotional support, and community leaders, civil society and individuals should float ideas on how best to do this, it said. – Bernama, July 9, 2021
