KUALA LUMPUR – The information chiefs of Perikatan Nasional components have voiced support for the appointment of Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob as deputy prime minister.

In a joint statement today, Bersatu’s Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan and Kamaruzaman Mohamad of PAS congratulated Ismail Sabri on his new role, and Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, also an Umno man, over his promotion as a senior minister.

“We support the appointments made by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin. The two ministers are highly experienced leaders who can assist the prime minister in administering the nation.

“We pray that with these appointments, we will be able to form stronger ties among the parties in the government, within the framework of a transparent, corruption-free administration that has integrity.”

They also welcomed the reconvening of Parliament.

Muhyiddin made the appointments to scupper Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and the Supreme Council’s intention to pull out of PN, with the announcement coming mere hours before a meeting of the party’s top leaders on Wednesday night.

It is not the first time that the Pagoh MP has shown his ruthlessness in politics.

Last year, he outfoxed two-time former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and seized the nation’s highest political office in the notorious Sheraton Move. – The Vibes, July 10, 2021
