KUALA LUMPUR – Police have denied accusations made by an individual in a viral video on YouTube who claimed that officers are extorting money and soliciting bribes from Chinese nationals.
Subang Jaya police chief Abd Khalid Othman in a statement yesterday said the nearly 42-minute video is believed to have been uploaded on February 3.
The clip shows a Chinese national claiming to have been blackmailed about 50 times by police in Malaysia, and accusing cops of always finding fault with foreigners, especially Chinese nationals, to solicit bribes, and will go as far as taking the victims to ATMs to withdraw money.
“Checks were made, and we found that, so far, no report has been made by the victim (the man) or anyone else on the incident. Police will view all the accusations seriously,” said Khalid.
“Police is calling for the victim to come forward to lodge a report on the incident, so that further investigations can be conducted transparently and thoroughly.”
He said his team will not compromise or hesitate to take action against any officer found to have committed an offence.
