KUALA LUMPUR – Sources in the parliament building have refuted reports that its staff had recently contracted Covid-19 at its vicinity.
The source told Malaysiakini, that the majority of civil servants have been vaccinated ahead of the Dewan Rakyat sittings on July 26 after it was suspended since January 11, following the declaration of emergency.
“So far, 80 percent (of us) have been vaccinated. The most recent cases happened one month ago,” the source reportedly said, referring to the Utusan report.
Earlier, Utusan’s report revealed that some Parliament employees had been infected with the virus.
The Malay daily said that there were positive cases among the security personnel stationed at Parliament where more than 10 people had displayed symptoms related to the coronavirus..
The report immediately raised concerns ahead of the upcoming sitting.
Deputy Dewan Rakyat Speaker Datuk Rashid Hasnon told Berita Harian that the cases will not affect the upcoming sittings.
He said that the situation is well under control and is being managed by the local district health office.
He added that the positive cases will not impact the special parliamentary session.
“They (positive cases and close contacts) are now undergoing self-quarantine at their own home,” he was quoted as saying. – The Vibes, July 15, 2021
